Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished second in the Monaco leg of the Diamond league on early Saturday morning (Manila time).
World no. 2 Obiena cleared 5.82 meters, tied with Australia’s Marschall, but claimed the second place due to countback. American Christopher Nilsen ruled the tournament with 5.92 meters.
Olympic gold medalist Armand Duplantis, on the other hand, placed fourth with a 5.72m clearance.
The Asian record holder and athletics championship gold medalist will also see action in the World Athletics Championship in Budapest next month.
