Following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Proclamation No. 297 lifting the COVID-19 state of public health emergency in the Philippines, lawmakers and the Department of Health went online to share their reactions.
Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada released a statement recognizing the declaration as a “positive step forward” for the nation but should not be an excuse to be careless in our efforts to protect public safety.
“Maging bukas sana ang pag-iisip ng lahat sa mga programa ng gobyerno gaya ng pagpapabakuna at pagsunod sa mga health protocols, kung kinakailangan, para masiguro ang pangangalaga ng kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan.” Ejercito said.
“Let us remain united in our resolve to overcome this pandemic and emerge from this crisis stronger, moving towards a more resilient and prepared Philippines for the future.”
Senator Francis Tolentino, in his interview on a Metro Manila radio station, also agreed with the President’s decision to lift the public health emergency and issued a warning to the public to remain careful in their daily activities.
“Konting ingat pa rin tayo. May nababalitaan pa rin akong pangilan-ngilan na nagkakaimpeksyon. Mabuti na ‘yung makasigurado ka kasi, kesa hindi lang mahawaan ka makakuha ka rin, iba na pong usapan yun,” said Tolentino.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health announced that following the proclamation, there would be a final meeting by the Inter-Agency Task Force to procure a comprehensive final report to formally close the pandemic by documenting the challenges and obstacles encountered throughout the pandemic.
“The Secretary of Health takes this opportunity to commend the exemplary performance and unwavering commitment of the Inter Agency Task Force and the medical frontliners who have demonstrated resilience and heroism throughout this challenging period. Their dedication to safeguarding public health has been instrumental in reaching this critical milestone,” Their statement read.
The DOH also issued a reminder for the public to remain vigilant in maintaining standard protocols for public health and safety.
“Continued awareness and adherence to recommended health protocols are paramount to safeguarding ourselves and our communities from any potential health risks,” said the Department.
“As we move forward, let us remember that our collective strength lies in unity. We stand as one, united in our commitment to combat any future pandemic that may come our way. Together, we can overcome any adversity and build a healthier and safer nation for all.” — DVM, GMA Integrated News
