Moira dela Torre says therapy helped her find her way back to the stage ahead of first MOA Arena concert

Moira dela Torre is returning to the stage with a renewed sense of purpose as she prepares for her first-ever headlining concert at SM Mall of Asia Arena happening on October 4. But before singing her biggest hits once again, the singer-songwriter opened up about the deeply personal journey that led her back to performing.

During the press conference for Where It All Started, Moira candidly spoke about mental health, therapy, public scrutiny, forgiveness, and finding hope again after one of the most difficult chapters of her life.

A concert that marks a new beginning

Where It All Started will feature special guests Ogie Alcasid, December Avenue, Adie, and Johnoy Danao.

For Moira, the concert is both a celebration of her career and a symbolic return to the place where her passion for music began.

“Mahal ko na ulit ‘yung ginagawa ko. Ready na ulit ako sumamba sa stage, excited na ulit ako humarap sa tao. Takot pa rin ako, mahiyain pa rin ako, pero kaya ko na ulit kasi alam ko na ulit kung bakit ako nandito.”

She admitted that if she had been asked months ago, she would have wanted to erase parts of her past. Today, however, she says she would not change any of it.

“Wala po akong gustong baguhin. I don’t think I would be the person I am right now if you would have changed anything.”

‘Malaya’ became the song that changed everything

When asked which of her songs best represents her life today, Moira immediately answered “Malaya.”

She shared that writing the song in her bedroom in 2016 became a defining moment in her songwriting journey.

“Isa po ‘yun sa pinaka-una kong Tagalog na kanta. Doon po nabuhay ‘yung pagmamahal ko sa language natin at sa pagsusulat.”

Choosing therapy and accountability

Moira revealed that stepping away from the spotlight was necessary because she could no longer sing songs of hope while feeling hopeless herself.

“I cannot get on stage and talk about hope when I feel hopeless. So I had to heal, and I wanted to heal privately and quietly.”

She said songwriting initially became her outlet, but eventually she realized professional help was necessary.

“Nagsulat po ako ng mga kanta, and eventually, nung hindi na ‘yun nag-work, nag-therapy po ako.”

The singer also reflected on accountability, saying pain may explain people’s actions but should never excuse them.

“You really do become toxic when you don’t get help for yourself… Pain may explain some of our choices, but it doesn’t excuse them.”

Moira described hitting rock bottom as the moment that finally pushed her to seek the help she needed.

Addressing speculation surrounding friendships and past collaborators, Moira chose compassion over blame.

She acknowledged that people were hurt in different ways and expressed hope that relationships can still be restored someday.

“I’m still hopeful that none of us really burned bridges… What we had was real, they’re good people, and I’m grateful for the memories.”

She also shared that despite feelings of shame and bitterness, she continues to choose prayer, empathy, and healing over public conflict.

Singing old songs with a new story

After a long break from performing some of her biggest hits, Moira said audiences will hear them differently during Where It All Started.

“I haven’t sung certain songs in so long because it was painful, but now I get to sing them again because the stories have changed.”

As she prepares for her biggest arena concert yet, Moira says both her personal life and artistry have been transformed by taking care of her mental health.

“Artistically, I feel a lot better because I started going to therapy. When I started taking care of my brain, it followed artistically.”

For Moira dela Torre, Where It All Started is a testament to healing, accountability, and finding her voice again after starting over.
