A Journey to Remember: Our Family and Friends Tour in Panglao Island, Bohol

May 7, 2022 - Panglao Island, Bohol, Philippines
There’s something magical about traveling with the people who matter most — your family and closest friends. For us, that magic unfolded in one of the Philippines' most breathtaking destinations: Panglao Island, Bohol. This trip wasn’t just a vacation. It was a celebration of connection, nature, and shared memories that will live in our hearts for a lifetime.
Touchdown in Paradise
The moment we stepped out of the airport, the fresh sea breeze welcomed us. We were greeted with sunshine, warm smiles from the locals, and that unmistakable island vibe. Our group — a lively mix of cousins, childhood friends, titos and titas — couldn’t wait to dive into what Panglao had to offer.
We checked into a beachfront resort in Alona Beach, known for its powdery white sand and clear, turquoise waters. The view from our room was surreal — like something straight out of a postcard.
Island Hopping and Underwater Wonders
The next morning, we were up at dawn for our island hopping adventure. The excitement was real as we boarded our boat and set out into the sea. First stop: Balicasag Island — a marine sanctuary teeming with vibrant corals and tropical fish. Snorkeling side-by-side with sea turtles felt like a dream. Even the kids were amazed, pointing out clownfish and starfish like little marine biologists.
Next, we headed to the Virgin Island, famous for its white sandbar that emerges during low tide. We walked barefoot along the sandbar, surrounded by crystal-clear water stretching endlessly into the horizon. Local vendors offered sea urchins, fresh scallops, and coconut juice — a perfect mid-morning treat.
Cultural Treasures and Natural Wonders
Our tour wouldn’t be complete without exploring the cultural side of Bohol. We took a day trip to see the iconic Chocolate Hills and visited the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella. Seeing those tiny, wide-eyed creatures was a highlight, especially for the kids.
Lunch was at a floating restaurant on the Loboc River. The buffet was delicious — grilled seafood, lechon, and local delicacies — and the scenery as we cruised down the lush, green river was soothing. A local band serenaded us with Visayan songs, and one of our uncles even joined in with a guitar. It felt like we were part of something deeply rooted and real.
Nighttime Bonding and Beach Bliss
Back in Panglao, our nights were equally special. We shared drinks and stories by the beach, played games, and even had an impromptu karaoke session (because, let’s face it — no Filipino gathering is complete without one). The kids ran around catching sand crabs with flashlights, while the rest of us lay on mats, watching the stars.
There was laughter, lots of photos, and even moments of quiet reflection. Being away from the noise of the city, surrounded by people we love, reminded us how important these moments are.
Going Home, Grateful
As our trip came to an end, there was a bittersweet feeling. No one really wanted to leave — Panglao had given us more than just sights and experiences. It gave us quality time — something we sometimes take for granted.
We left with sun-kissed skin, full hearts, and a new shared chapter in our family and friendship story. And as we boarded the plane home, one thing was clear: this tour wasn’t the end. It was just the beginning of many more adventures to come.
