Nathan Randal Reflects on His Father’s Legacy and Kuh Ledesma’s Guidance
For rising artist Nathan Randal, music has always been more than a performance. It is a language of love, memory, and gratitude — one first introduced to him by his father at a very young age.
Ahead of his upcoming show, Love Songs for My Father, Nathan reflects on the people who shaped his journey, including his father and OPM icon Kuh Ledesma, whose guidance and support have become an important part of his growth as a young performer.
Receiving encouragement from a respected figure like Kuh Ledesma is something Nathan does not take lightly.
“Receiving that kind of validation from Ms. Kuh Ledesma is incredibly humbling and honestly feels like a dream,” he shared. “She is an absolute institution in OPM, so to hear her describe me as talented, respectful, and committed to my craft is both a massive honor and a huge responsibility.”
For Nathan, working closely with the OPM icon has been a life-changing experience. He describes every rehearsal and performance with Ledesma as a “masterclass,” not only in vocal technique, but also in discipline, professionalism, and emotional connection.
“Beyond the vocal techniques, she has taught me so much about the discipline it takes to sustain a career — things like the importance of rest, vocal care, and professionalism,” Nathan said. “What resonates with me the most is how she commands the stage and connects with the audience on a deeper, spiritual level.”
That emotional depth is something Nathan hopes to bring to Love Songs for My Father, a show that serves as both a concert and a heartfelt tribute. Audiences can expect an evening filled with nostalgia, timeless melodies, and stories told through music.
“They can expect an evening of pure nostalgia, deep emotion, and storytelling through music,” he said. “Because this specific show is so close to my heart, I am pouring my entire soul into every lyric.”
Nathan’s love for music began in childhood, during quiet bonding moments with his father. He recalls being just three or four years old when his father would invite him into his office to listen to classic records together.
“It was our special bonding time,” Nathan recalled. “He would play these beautiful classic records, and that’s where the seed was planted. Singing along with him in that room is exactly where my love for music began.”
Those early listening sessions introduced him to artists such as Engelbert Humperdinck, Josh Turner, and Tom Jones — voices that would later influence his own sound and performance style. Their rich tones, commanding presence, and ability to tell stories through song helped shape Nathan’s appreciation for classic, soulful music.
“Artists like Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck don’t just sing — they deliver a performance with a lot of heart, power, and romance,” Nathan said. “They taught me to focus on the weight and texture of my voice.”
At the heart of it all is Nathan’s relationship with his father. For him, music is the bridge that connects them and the greatest legacy his father has passed on.
“Music is essentially the language of our relationship,” he shared. “He wasn’t just the one who introduced me to my favorite artists; he has always been my biggest inspiration and cheerleader.”
This makes Love Songs for My Father deeply personal for Nathan. More than a concert, he sees it as his ultimate thank-you letter to the man who gave him the gift of music.
“This show is my ultimate tribute and ‘thank you’ letter to my dad,” he said. “Being able to dedicate an entire concert to him — especially around Father’s Day — means the world to me.”
The show will be held at Hacienda Isabella’s A.R.T.E. Theater, a venue Nathan describes as magical, serene, and intimate. For him, the setting creates the perfect space to connect with the audience on a more personal level.
“There’s nowhere to hide in an intimate venue like that; the energy is shared instantly,” Nathan said. “I’m so excited to look people in the eyes, strip down the walls, and let the music speak directly to their hearts.”
As the concert celebrates fathers and the dreams they help nurture, Nathan also shares a message for dads who continue to support their children’s passions.
“Thank you for being the quiet strength behind our wildest dreams,” he said. “Your belief in us when we are just starting out gives us the courage to step onto whatever stage life throws at us.”
After Love Songs for My Father, Nathan is looking forward to continuing his journey with more live performances, new musical explorations, and eventually, original music rooted in the classic and soulful sounds he grew up with.
“This is really just the beginning of the journey,” Nathan said. “I want to keep spreading music, evolving as an artist, and bringing people along with me on this beautiful ride.”
