Philippines Rises Strong at the 2026 JKA Spring Camp in Tokyo

TOKYO, JAPAN — May 5, 2026 -  In an inspiring display of discipline, tradition, and international excellence, JKA Philippines emerged as one of the standout delegations during the highly respected 2026 Spring Camp hosted by the Japan Karate Association in Tokyo.

Gathering elite karate practitioners, instructors, and senior masters from across the globe, the annual JKA Spring Camp is regarded as one of the highest-level traditional karate training events in the world. This year, the Philippine delegation delivered a historic performance that signaled the country’s growing influence within the international karate community.

Leading the celebration were two Filipino karate masters who achieved one of the highest distinctions in traditional karate: official recognition as 7th Dan (Nanadan) karatekas.

The honorees include:

  • Sensei Ruben Tinda-an of Northern Philippines
  • Sensei Jullian Chees, originally from the Northern Philippines and currently based in Germany

Their elevation represents a rare and historic milestone for Philippine karate, placing them among an elite circle of internationally recognized senior martial arts masters.

Equally significant was the successful renewal of Special Dan Rights by Shihan Lito Luague, Chairman of JKA Philippines, and Sensei Khim Torres, Technical Director of the organization.

This prestigious recognition authorizes them to conduct official Dan examinations under JKA standards and reflects the confidence and trust bestowed upon them by the leadership of JKA Headquarters in Japan.

Further elevating the Philippine delegation’s accomplishments, Sensei Cindy Torres earned her Instructor C and Judge C certifications after rigorous evaluations conducted by the distinguished JKA HQ Shihan-kai, including:

  • Shuseki Shihan Oishi
  • Shihan Imamura
  • Shihan Shiina
  • Shihan Izumiya
  • Shihan Imura

Meanwhile, Sensei Kyla Tinda-an achieved Instructor D and Judge D qualifications—an important advancement highlighting the rise of a new generation of Filipino karate leaders prepared for international standards.

The delegation also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of Sensei Raul Andaya, whose active support and representation strengthened the presence of JKA Philippines throughout the event.

For many observers, the achievements of the Philippine delegation represent more than technical promotions or titles. They symbolize the steady rise of the Philippines as a respected force in global traditional karate.

In an era where martial arts increasingly transcend sport and become vehicles for cultural diplomacy, character development, and international unity, JKA Philippines continues to demonstrate how dedication, humility, and discipline can build bridges across nations.

“These accomplishments are not only victories for individuals,” members of the delegation shared. “They are victories for Philippine karate, for Asian martial arts heritage, and for the next generation who will continue the tradition.”

The organization likewise paid tribute to Shihan Lito Luague for his enduring leadership, mentorship, and sacrifices in nurturing Filipino karate practitioners toward world-class excellence.

As the 2026 JKA Spring Camp closes in Tokyo, one message resonates strongly across the international martial arts community:

The Philippines is no longer merely participating in the global karate movement — it is helping shape its future.
