Why The Philippines Remains One of The Script’s Biggest Fan Bases

The Philippines’ love affair with romantic music has long been undeniable. From soft rock ballads of the ’80s to alternative anthems of the 2000s, emotionally charged songs continue to dominate karaoke playlists across the country. For Irish pop-rock band The Script, that connection runs especially deep.

Tracks such as Breakeven have become embedded in Filipino pop culture, with fans passionately belting out its now-iconic lines — particularly the emotional refrain, “I’m falling to pieces” — during late-night karaoke sessions and sing-alongs.

It is this enduring bond with Filipino listeners that keeps The Script coming back to Manila. Since making their local debut in 2011, the Philippines has grown into one of the band’s strongest fan bases worldwide. During an exclusive Asia media conference for their upcoming Man in the Arena World Tour, the band reflected on their special relationship with Filipino fans ahead of their highly anticipated return. Kicking off in Dublin in October 2026, the tour will make its way to the SM Mall of Asia Arena for a two-night run on March 18 and 19, 2027, marking The Script’s seventh visit to the Philippines. Fans can also expect an elevated concert experience, with the production featuring storytelling elements woven into the setlist.

Frontman Danny O’Donoghue shared how deeply connected he feels to fans from the Philippines, even beyond the stage. “We’ve got a huge fan base online from the Philippines,” he said. “They’re always in my DMs — telling me where to go when I come over, asking me to visit beaches, and even sending me food recipes.” Still, according to Danny, nothing compares to the feeling of performing live in front of Filipino audiences. “The real connection happens when you’re here, when you’re on stage and you see just how much the songs mean to people,” he added.

The band also opened up about their latest single, Man in the Arena, which draws inspiration from a famous 1910 speech by Theodore Roosevelt. The song takes its title and message from Roosevelt’s idea that true honor belongs to the person willing to step into the arena — the one brave enough to take risks, endure setbacks, and keep fighting despite criticism. Danny described it as a modern anthem of resilience, likening it to “a 2026 version” of songs such as Hall of Fame and Superheroes, meant to inspire listeners while bringing a renewed sense of hope and optimism.

Man in the Arena will appear on The Script’s forthcoming album, The User’s Guide to Being Human, set for global release on August 14, 2026. Danny expressed excitement about the project, saying he has not felt this energized about an album in years. “There’s a sense of optimism that’s come back into the band,” he shared. At the same time, he acknowledged the emotional journey behind the music following the passing of founding member Mark Sheehan. “Losing Mark was a massive blow — not just to the band creatively, but personally. He was my best friend for 30 years,” Danny said, reflecting on the grief that shaped the group’s recent work and the healing process behind their new material.
